Notes on Persistence

By June 23, 2026General, Thoughts2 min read

Throughout my career as a publisher, even from my time in education, I have struggled with persistence. I have been accused of having an all-or-nothing mentality; as soon as I ‘fail’ at something, it’s very easy for me to give up, especially when it comes to building new habits. There are many reasons for this, from genetics and hormones to burnout and stress management.

This applies to my marketing, too. As mentioned previously, I had a chat with marketing genius Karen Webber, where she pointed me in the direction of blogs and LinkedIn: a plan that should (if executed effectively) help me build a new customer base. As always, I started off the following week motivated and determined to go all in.

Wasn’t it Monday yesterday? Didn’t I schedule time to write and post some content, as I have done for the past two weeks?

That’s right, I dropped the ball. The ‘-or-nothing’ was creeping up my spine – if I couldn’t even keep up with something so simple for a month, how was I meant to make any real change?

That’s why I’m writing this today. As Karen would tell me, at least I’ve taken the time to do something. It’s not perfect, it’s not long, it’s not even particularly well thought out, but I’ve done it anyway.

There will always be more Mondays.
