I’ve written about this book before, so I won’t regale you with the whole tale again. What I will do is tell you about what that first book has become. Twelve plus books later, I’ve learned a lot, and Beneath The Poisoned Roots has grown with me.
The Roots trilogy is my passion project; from the first printing in 2022, I always knew it would be a trilogy. When I started making Poisoned, I didn’t know exactly how the rest of the course would play out, but without that first concept, I don’t think Barnard Publishing Ltd. would be here in the same way. The projects that followed all came from one book. The butterfly effect is real.
I caught a YouTube short from one of my authors earlier this week. Alastair Raper is the only author featured in all three Roots books, and we’re working on getting his debut novel published in a few months. Seeing the short had me rolling around on the floor, squealing like a child. I wish I were joking. The impostor syndrome is strong, and any recognition sends me to my grave.
I’m bringing this up because I never thought I would get to where I am now. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I can see how far I’ve come in the last 3 years alone. From knowing nothing about publishing, to adapting to the challenges each project brings and building my own systems that work for me and my authors’ books.
To commemorate the publication of the last book in the trilogy, I wanted the first two to have nice new dresses to match their youngest sibling. Actually, I didn’t know I wanted this until I saw the draft designs that Kseniya drew up for me. It was so difficult to choose; they all looked amazing. The ones I chose delve deeper into the body, starting with a hand, moving to the ribs, and ending with the heart. Each one is a work of art, and I want to make and sell print bundles for them. Even if no one buys them, I’ll have done it for me.
